Most Spokane natives, as well as Gonzaga fans, are aware of the famous Jack & Dan’s Bar and Grill. However, most do not know the interesting history behind this iconic eatery. In 1932, Jack & Dan’s began as Louie’s Snappy Service, a spirit emporium that delivered fresh brews via motorcycle during the prohibition.
For the next several decades, the bar was sold and purchased by several different men. Some of which include Mr. Cole “the only one-armed bartender west of Chicago”, famous boxer Joey August, Frank Garcia, and Ernie Pupo. Finally in 1961, Jack Stockton, father of legendary Gonzaga and Utah Jazz basketball player John Stockton, purchased the bar and became business partners with his longtime friend Dan Crowley.
After many years of owning and operating the bar, Crowley sold his share of the business Jeffery Donald Condill. Several years later Stockton did the same to longtime employee of Jack & Dan’s, Kevin MacDonald. Today, Kevin and Jeffrey continue to make sure that the bar is the local hotspot for Gonzaga basketball game watching and famous St. Patrick’s Day parties. This bar continues to beat out competition in the surrounding area because, let’s face it, you can’t beat a classic!
