SpokAnimal Dog Park

SpokAnimal Dog Park at High Bridge started as a 3-year contract between SpokAnimal
C.A.R.E. and the City of Spokane Parks and Recreation Department. On December
27, 2010, the contract marked the beginning of Spokane’s very first dog park.
Donating $40,000 dollars, SpokAnimal is the namesake donor of the park and
their donation made it possible to begin installing fencing for the safety of
man’s best friend and the security of the community. The park has also garnished
a lot of community support—most notably an Eagle Scout project that brought
nine benches to the site. 14 yr. old Keign Vedvick heard that the busy park was
in much need of some sitting areas and took it upon himself to hand build (yes
you read that right) these benches as a part of his Eagle Scout Requirements.
The Spokane Parks Foundation has also awarded a $12,000 grant for further
development of the dog park which has been put to building designated areas for
small and medium to large dogs, as well as a sizeable parking lot. As the love
and popularity of the park increases, more funding will become available and,
boy, do they have big plans! Developers have their sights set on a hiking
trail, splash pads, agility equipment, community gardens, and picnic tables
being installed in the future to add to the wonderful community atmosphere the
dog park provides. For more information on the park, and to see pictures of its
